Jewellery Cleaning

Take off your jewellery when doing gardening, going to the shower or going for a morning running. The surface of your jewellery can be affected due to the chemicals used when doing laundry or washing dishes. You should try not to use your jewellery when dying your hair or using hairspray. Perspiration also has a negative effect on jewellery – when doing sports, it oxidizes the silver jewellery. The gold can be affected by chlorine, therefore, you should not use your gold jewellery when going to the pool.

After staying for a longer period in an open environment, jewellery changes its intensity of polish, therefore, it should be kept in the polythene bags, separated from the other jewellery, so that they would not rub into each other. Chains and bracelets should be wrapped into a soft cloth. Gold will shine brighter if you will hold it in the sugary water.

Gold jewellery requires some extra care. Not only because its price is now on the peak J If golden jewellery does not shine anymore, wash it in the water/ammonia solution (6 drops of ammonia into a glass of water). After, pour it over with a pure water and dry it with a flannel patch.

In order to blanch yellow jewellery that is affected by chemicals or cosmetics, use lemon acid solution; smack 3 spoons lemon acid into 0,5 l of water and boil your jewellery in this solution for about 5 minutes. If you want to revitalize the polish of the metals, you should pick a soft cotton cloth and smooth a thin layer of chalk into it. Then, manually polish the surface, and wash it in the soapy water. It is advisable to use special napkins intended namely for the polishing. In order to restore or to fix jewellery, it is advisable to consult the jeweller.

You should be especially cautious about your jewellery with encrusted precious and semi-precious stones. More information on how to take care of  your gemstone jewellery can be found here.
